about us

Birth Assistants of Boulder, Inc was founded by three women in 1992, as a training and resource organization for birth doulas. Today, our group consists of six professional women who are highly experienced and dedicated to helping families through the non-medical aspects of childbirth. We back each other up, participate in continuing education and network with local birth professionals. Our goal is to work with respect and integrity in our community.

When one of our doulas has been hired, she meets with the mother and her support people once or twice prenatally, accompanies them through active labor and birth, and provides one follow-up post-partum visit. Our doulas work with a variety of women, those birthing in the hospital (with or without medication, vaginal or by cesarean), as well as those planning a homebirth with a Registered Midwife. We do not replace the father or partner, rather we encourage them to participate in a way that is meaningful for them. Our support is strictly non-medical; our priority is the emotional and physical comfort of the mother.

Birth Assistants of Boulder doulas work primarily in Boulder County as well as the North Denver areas.
