What
is BABI?
Birth
Assistants of Boulder, Inc. was founded by 3 women in 1992 as
a
training and support organization for birth doulas. Our group today
consists of 5 professional women, all trained and experienced
with
helping families through the non-medical aspects of childbirth.
We support each other as back-up doulas, continually gather
information
and share so we can learn and grow as doulas, and educate and network
within the wider birth community.
We generally meet with mothers and support people up to 2 times
prenatally, accompany them through labor and birth (whether medicated
or not, for cesareans or vaginal births, at home with a registered
midwife or at the hospital) and visit the new family once
in the immediate postpartum period. We do not replace the
father or partner, but instead help him to participate
at his own comfort level. Our support is strictly non-medical;
we focus on the emotional and physical comfort of the mother.
We
support women birthing at home with registered midwives, or at Boulder
County and North Metro Denver hospitals. |
